Project Summary to date
During 2007 CES together with Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing and Kirklees Energy Services completed a project to update old electric storage heating systems for an “off-gas” community in Huddersfield. The aims of this were to replace the outdated and inefficient electric storage heaters with something that would provide residents with much more control and flexibility over their heating, together with the potential to lower their heating costs and at the same time lowering CO2 emissions. Through CES’s involvement the Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) technology was presented to Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing along with a comparable option to bringing mains gas into the area.
The project successfully installed an ASHP heating system in 48 social properties and fully funded a further 9 private households, all within this one community.
Additional benefits as a result of this project include: private homes benefitting through funding for extended support/warranties to help ensure their costs for keeping warm are kept low. The Kirklees Warmzone assessments haven also now taken place, the outcome of which mean insulation levels, incomes and safety are all maximised.
The heating installer has received free ASHP training and will now be able to offer on-going support and maintenance in this area and has now built up experience in this new field which may be of use in future projects. This means an additional stream of revenue and skills were secured for a local business.
