Geographic coverage

CES's remit coincides with the Government Office North East and Government Office Yorkshire & Humber geographic areas. All projects must be wholly within these respective areas.

Both CES operations are aiming for an equitable split of the 20 projects across each area, including a mix of gas mains extensions and renewable-based projects in both rural and urban settings, subject to securing appropriate funding and co-operation from specific project partners.

Working towards a target of 50% of projects to benefit rural areas following Defra's definition of rural, there is a particular focus on Indicator Districts as these areas have localities experiencing high levels of deprivation.
